Yoga Nidra - Tuesday midday class

Class number 2. Tuesday 24th. of January

As I sit down and slowly lay on my back in the practice room of Yoga Lokah studio I take a deep breath in and fuller breath out. My memories take me right back to my yoga classes in USA, where I lived in small town of Warrenton and practiced as much as I could and met the most wonderful people. You have to understand, I am usually taking the seat of teacher, being on the other side of where I am laying down now in the practice room, but today I took a seat of practitioner, of a student. As we can take many seats in our lives…

But, back to me, laying on my mat, reminiscing about my yoga begginings back in Warrenton….wait a minute, I am in Czech, I realize….I should be talking to myself in Czech language. I got use to this phenomena, since I met yoga and learnt about yoga in America, my memories of those times come back to me in English language. But, now opravdu zpět ke mě, jak si tak ležím na podložce a čekám na Janaki. Ano, druhá lekce Yoga Nidra, Jógínský Spánek, je zrovna před začátkem.

Začínáme třemi zvuky Óm, pak si opět leháme na záda a následujeme jasné instrukce, které Janaki vyslovuje čistým hlasem.

Nechávám tělo uvolnit, část po části, kousek po kousku, nejprve pravá strana, pak na stranu levou a v tu chvíli jsem ucítila velkou vlnu uvolnění, podložka se snad musela zabořit aspoň 30 cm pod podlahu. Jsem úplně uvolněná, slyším hlas Janaki, jak postupně uvádí naše těla do hlubší a hlubší relaxace. Myslím, že slovo relaxace dost nevystihuje proces, který v Jógovém Spánku probíhá.

Věřím ale, že na to slovo brzy přijdu. Budu se na Janaki lekci vracet a praktikovat tuto hlubokou praxi, vím, že nespím, ale cítím se stejně, jako ve spánku. Slyším, vnímám Janaki hlas, vnímám své tělo, vnímám hlasy z venku, ale vše, jako by se dělo neskutečně daleko. Vše okolo mne je plné a prázdné zárověň, měkké a hladké a tělo, jako by neznalo omezení.

Chvíli jsem nevěděla, co je vlastně realita a co z toho je sen. Není to náhodou obráceně? Tělo jsem totiž vnímala vertikálně, ne horizontálně na podložce, na moment.

Ok, Janaki nás navádí zpět k vědomému dechu, pomalému navrácení pohybu do těla. Pomalu tělo probudím a najednou ho vnímám tak, jak jsem si lehla na začátku. Postupně si sednu, sepneme dlaně k sobě a zníme 3x óm. Wow, that was another great deep practice. Come and join us. Next Tuesday I will be there. Horizontaly or verticaly, either way I am there.

 

 

First class, Tuesday the 17th. of January

Maybe some of you noticed we added new classes to our colorful schedule. One of the classes is midday class on Tuesdays - Yoga Nidra. Have you ever tried this specific practice? I have, but only once. Still when I lived in USA, one of my friend was offering classes. I do remember how much I enjoyed it. But since then I did not get opportunity to practice again. Until today. I have decided to stay for Janaki class. It was three of us there today, so the setting and mood was very pleasant and comfy. Janaki invited us to start with the three sounds of OM together which is always good start for practice. Do you know Yoga Nidra is actual translated as Yogic sleep? Hey, who would not want to sleep in the middle of the day? But actually, Janaki instructed us to try not to fell asleep during the practice. The practice is done in the most known pose - Shavasana - the pose of corpse. So, laying on the floor on your back.

Janaki gives clear and gentle instructions, well...she rather leads you through the practice with clear voice on how to relax, be aware you are relaxing and still being able to let go, to watch of what you are letting go. Yoga Nidra teaches us how to consciously take our attention to different parts of the body and relax them.  And this is very refreshing, not easy always to do, there were moments where I felt I got deeper into the relaxed state and stopped following her voice, but was still aware of my body, on the mat, in the room.

After 40 minutes or so, we were done, we were asked to invite movement back to body, to stretch the body and slowly come up to sit down, to finish this wonderful refreshing practice with three OMs again.

Come, let yourself be relaxed, refreshed and renewed. In the middle of the day. In the middle of the city.
